About the Playbook
The BC Climate Leaders Playbook is a resource informed by science and designed specifically for local government elected officials who want to lead and support bold, timely climate action in their community.
Every move and target in the resource is linked to the overarching goal of limiting global warming to 1.5C, as per the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report from October 2018. To reach this target, we must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, and become zero carbon communities by 2050. These are big goals, but we have solutions to get started. Local governments are critical in this journey; they lay the foundation for every resident and business in their community to make the clean choice the easy choice, every time.
Through this online resource, you can explore The Facts and The Vision that guides this Playbook. You can then explore theĀ The Big Moves, and The Strategies and take the information right to your community! No matter where you are in your journey to a zero carbon community, this resource has tactics for you.
The Climate Leaders Playbook has been created by the Community Energy Association on behalf of the BC Municipal Climate Leadership Council (BCMCLC). An advisory committee of past and present BC elected officials, as well as technical experts has contributed to the content in the resource.
